Proper file preparation helps preserve the color, detail, composition, and overall appearance of your artwork when it is printed.
For the best results, begin with the highest-quality original file available, use a supported file format, embed an appropriate color profile, and review the image carefully before placing your order.

We do not recommend uploading screenshots, social-media downloads, layered working files, or heavily compressed web images.
JPG Settings
When saving a JPG, use:
- 8 bits per channel
- Baseline Standard encoding
- An embedded color profile
A high-quality JPG is suitable for most photographic printing and is generally our recommended format when no additional editing is required.
PNG Settings
When saving a PNG, use:
- 8 bits per channel
- RGB color
- An embedded color profile when supported
TIFF Settings
When saving a TIFF, use:
- 8 bits per channel
- No layers
- No alpha channels
- LZW image compression
- Interleaved pixel order
- An embedded color profile
If you are editing in Photoshop, flatten all layers before saving the final print file.
What Is the Maximum Upload Size?
Files up to 1 GB may be uploaded directly through our website.
If your file exceeds 1 GB:
- Upload a smaller placeholder image when placing the order.
- Upload the full-resolution print file to a file-transfer service.
- Email the download link to support@artbeatstudios.com.
- Include your order number and identify which ordered image the file replaces.

Start With the Original File
Whenever possible, use the original image exported from your camera, smartphone, scanner, or design software.
Original files usually contain substantially more image information than copies saved through messaging, websites, or social-media platforms.

Avoid When Possible

A file can have large physical dimensions while still containing poor detail, compression artifacts, or softness. File size alone does not determine print quality.
What Color Profile Should I Use?
Our preferred working color space is:
Adobe RGB (1998)
Adobe RGB provides a useful color range for professional print production and is the preferred embedded profile for files submitted to Artbeat Studios.
Other embedded color profiles are accepted, but files outside our working space are converted automatically and may produce an appearance that differs from what was expected.
Always embed the color profile when saving your final file.
How Do I Convert a File to Adobe RGB in Photoshop?
To convert an image in Adobe Photoshop:
- Open the image.
- Select Edit.
- Select Convert to Profile.
- Set the destination space to Adobe RGB (1998).
- Confirm the conversion.
- Save the file with Embed Color Profile enabled.
Use Convert to Profile, rather than simply assigning a different profile. Converting preserves the intended appearance as closely as possible while translating the image into the new color space.
Recommended Photoshop Color Settings
For a consistent Adobe RGB workflow, use:
Working Spaces
- Select Edit > Color Settings
- Under Working Spaces, set RGB to Adobe RGB (1998)
Color Management Policies
- Set RGB to Convert to Working RGB
Profile Mismatches

These warnings help prevent images with different embedded profiles from being converted or interpreted without your knowledge.
When saving the final file, always confirm that Embed Color Profile is selected.
What Resolution Should My File Have?
Our preferred resolution is:
150 DPI at the intended print size
Our general resolution range is:
- Preferred: 150 DPI
- Maximum needed: 300 DPI
- Minimum recommended: 100 DPI
Images should be captured or created at the highest useful pixel resolution available.
Uploading a file above 300 DPI generally does not provide an additional visible benefit for our printing process. Conversely, increasing the DPI value without adding genuine image detail does not improve a low-resolution file.
Our printers render each image at the optimum production resolution, but the printing process cannot recreate detail that is not present in the original file.
Recommended Pixel Dimensions
The following dimensions show the preferred pixel count at 150 DPI and the minimum pixel count at 100 DPI.

These values are useful guidelines rather than a guarantee of image quality.
A file can meet the recommended pixel dimensions and still contain:
- Motion blur
- Missed focus
- Heavy noise
- Compression artifacts
- Artificial enlargement
- Editing errors
- Insufficient detail
The visual quality of the source image remains important.
How Does Viewing Distance Affect Resolution?
Resolution requirements are influenced by how closely the finished print will normally be viewed.
Smaller Prints
Smaller prints are often viewed from approximately 1–2 feet away. Fine details and image imperfections may therefore be easier to notice.
Large Wall Art
Large prints are generally viewed from farther away. At a typical distance of approximately 5–10 feet, slightly lower pixel density may still appear sharp and detailed.
Oversized Installations
Very large installations may be viewed from 10 feet away or more. The increased viewing distance can make lower effective resolution less noticeable.
Even with this consideration, we recommend submitting files that meet or exceed the listed 100 DPI minimum whenever possible.
Should I Resize Files for Sample Prints?
Yes, when practical.
When ordering a small sample print, export a copy of the image at the dimensions needed for the sample. This reduces upload time and avoids sending an unnecessarily large file for a small test print.
Keep your full-resolution master file unchanged and create a separate sample-size export.
Review the Image at 100% Zoom
Before exporting the final file, inspect it at 100% zoom.
Look carefully for:
- Motion blur
- Soft or missed focus
- Excessive noise
- Compression artifacts
- Dust spots
- Sensor spots
- Sharpening halos
- Banding
- Editing seams
- Cloning errors
- Unwanted objects
- Jagged text or logos
Issues that appear minor on a reduced screen preview may become more noticeable when enlarged.
Viewing at 100% does not perfectly simulate the finished print, but it is a useful way to identify technical issues within the source file.
How Much Sharpening Should I Apply?
Sharpening should be applied carefully.
Too little sharpening may allow an image to appear soft, while excessive sharpening can create:
- Bright or dark halos
- Jagged edges
- Exaggerated noise
- Unnatural texture
- Visible artifacts
For most files:
- Apply moderate sharpening
- Avoid aggressive sharpening presets
- Review detailed areas at 100%
- Check smooth areas for increased noise
- Preserve a clean master file before sharpening for output
Sharpening can improve the appearance of existing detail, but it cannot restore detail that was never captured.
Do I Need to Add Bleed?
No.
Do not add bleed to your uploaded image.
Our ordering and production systems add the required bleed for the selected product.
Adding your own bleed, mirrored edges, extended background, crop marks, registration marks, or printer marks may interfere with the intended crop or finished presentation.
Upload the image as you would like the visible composition to appear and review the crop shown during ordering.
How Far Should Important Elements Be From the Edge?
Keep important visual elements at least 1/2 inch from the edge of the image whenever possible.
This includes:
- Signatures
- Text
- Logos
- Borders within the artwork
- Faces
- Fine details
- Copyright marks
- Essential compositional elements
Small portions of the outer image may be affected by production bleed, trimming tolerances, mounting, framing, or canvas wrapping.
Providing space around important elements reduces the possibility that they will appear too close to the finished edge.
How Are Signatures Affected on Canvas Prints?
For a canvas print with mirrored edges, signatures positioned less than 1.5 inches from the edge may appear partially or entirely on the wrapped side of the canvas.
To keep a signature clearly visible on the front face:
- Position it more than 1.5 inches from the edge
- Review the crop and wrap preview carefully
- Avoid placing it directly against a corner
- Consider the selected canvas edge treatment
The safest placement may vary depending on the canvas depth and image composition.
Pay Attention to Cropping and Aspect Ratio
Print dimensions do not always match the proportions of the original image.
For example:
- Many cameras capture images using a 3:2 ratio
- An 8" × 10" print uses a 4:5 ratio
- A panoramic print may use a 2:1 ratio
- A square print uses a 1:1 ratio
When the aspect ratios differ, part of the image must be cropped to fill the selected print size.
Review the ordering preview carefully for:
- Subject placement
- Missing edges
- Cropped signatures
- Cropped text or logos
- Horizon alignment
- Orientation
- Important details near the perimeter
The preview represents the crop and orientation being submitted with the order.
Monitor Calibration and Print Brightness
A monitor produces color using light projected directly toward the viewer. A print reflects the light in the room.
Because monitors are illuminated, images on an uncalibrated or overly bright display may appear brighter and more vivid than the finished print.
For the closest practical screen-to-print comparison, use a properly calibrated and profiled monitor.
A hardware calibration device or spectrophotometer can measure the display and create an ICC profile that describes how the monitor reproduces color.
Without proper calibration, an ICC profile may not display as intended.
What If I Do Not Have Calibration Hardware?
You can make a basic brightness comparison using a clean sheet of white paper:
- Place a sheet of white paper near the monitor under normal room lighting.
- Display a white area on the screen.
- Lower the monitor brightness until the screen’s white point appears reasonably similar in brightness to the paper.
- Review the image again at the adjusted display brightness.
This is not a replacement for hardware calibration, but it can provide a more realistic comparison between a backlit screen and a reflective print.
When color or brightness is especially important, consider ordering a smaller sample print before purchasing a large or expensive final piece.
Review the Image Histogram
A histogram is a graph representing the tonal data within an image.
It shows how image pixels are distributed from:
- Dark shadows
- Midtones
- Bright highlights
Reviewing the histogram can help identify:
- Clipped shadows
- Blown highlights
- Underexposure
- Overexposure
- Limited tonal range
- Strongly concentrated brightness values
Exposure determines the underlying pixel values in the image and is an important part of predictable print reproduction.
A histogram should not be judged by one ideal shape. The appropriate distribution depends on the image itself. A dark night photograph will naturally have a different histogram than a bright snow scene.
Use the histogram together with a calibrated visual review rather than relying on it alone.
Common Misconceptions
Every print file must be 300 DPI.
No.
Our preferred resolution is 150 DPI, with 100 DPI considered the recommended minimum. Files above 300 DPI generally do not provide an additional production benefit.
Changing the DPI number improves a low-resolution image.
Not by itself.
Changing only the DPI metadata does not create genuine image detail. Artificial enlargement may increase pixel dimensions, but it cannot fully reproduce information missing from the original capture.
A large file always produces a better print.
No.
A large file containing blur, compression, noise, or poor editing may produce a worse result than a smaller but cleaner image.
Social-media images are full resolution.
Usually not.
Social-media and messaging platforms commonly resize or compress uploaded images. Use the original file whenever possible.
I need to add bleed before uploading.
No.
Our system adds the bleed required for each product.
An embedded color profile is unnecessary.
An embedded profile tells color-managed software how the file’s color values should be interpreted. Adobe RGB (1998) is our preferred profile, and the profile should be embedded when the file is saved.
A calibrated monitor guarantees an exact match.
No.
Calibration improves predictability, but a backlit display and a reflective physical print will never appear completely identical under every viewing condition.
The print preview checks every quality issue in my file.

The preview is primarily used to confirm the image, crop, dimensions, and orientation. Carefully inspect the full-resolution file for focus, noise, artifacts, and editing issues before ordering.

For the most predictable results:
- Begin with the original, highest-quality image.
- Export an 8-bit RGB JPG, PNG, or flattened TIFF.
- Convert to and embed Adobe RGB (1998) when possible.
- Aim for 150 DPI at the intended print size and remain above 100 DPI.
- Do not add bleed.
- Keep signatures and important details away from the edges.
- Review the image at 100% zoom.
- Confirm the crop and orientation during ordering.
- Evaluate the file on a calibrated or reasonably brightness-matched display.
- Order a smaller sample when color, brightness, or detail is especially critical.
