Why Does My Image Look Dark or Dull in the 3D Preview?

The 3D preview is not a digital proof of your finished print. It is a visualization tool designed to give you a general idea of how your artwork may look displayed in a room.

The preview adds simulated lighting, shadows, reflections, and surface effects. Because those effects are approximations, your image may appear darker, duller, flatter, softer, or more reflective than the uploaded file.

This does not necessarily mean the finished print will look that way.

If your file looks correct but the 3D room preview looks dull, do not edit the image solely to compensate for the preview.

What Is the 3D Preview Useful For?

The preview can help you visualize:

• The general size and orientation of the artwork
• How the piece may look on a wall
• The overall presentation of the selected frame, mount, or finish
• How reflective surfaces may interact with room lighting

The simulated reflections and lighting may be stronger or different from what you will see in your own space.

What Is the 3D Preview Not Designed to Show?

The 3D preview should not be used to judge:

• Exact color or brightness
• Precise contrast or shadow detail
• Fine detail or sharpness
• The exact amount of glare in your room
• Whether the finished print will match your monitor
• The final print as a color-accurate digital proof

Your print is produced from the uploaded image and the crop selected during ordering, not from the appearance of the 3D room mockup.

What Should I Do if the Preview Looks Wrong?

First, confirm your crop and orientation in the order builder. Then review the original uploaded file outside the 3D scene.

If the file and crop look correct, you generally should not brighten, darken, or recolor the image just because of the room preview.

What if I Already Received My Print?

A finished print can look different from a backlit monitor because of the selected material, surface finish, display lighting, and monitor settings.
