What Framing Options Are Available?
Updated September 2026 • 5-minute read
Artbeat Studios offers three main wood frame styles: Box Frames, Float Frames, and Flat Frames. Each creates a different presentation, and the available options depend on the print material.
This guide covers product compatibility, frame finishes, profiles, matting, and important details to consider before ordering.
Quick Answer
Frame Style | Available For | Appearance |
|---|---|---|
Box Frame | HD Metal, HD Acrylic, HD Mounted, and Paper Prints | A defined border that overlaps the image slightly |
Float Frame | HD Metal, HD Acrylic, HD Mounted, and Canvas Prints | A surrounding frame with a small gap around the artwork |
Flat Frame | Paper Prints | A wider frame face that pairs well with matting |
HD Mounted Prints offer both Box and Float Frames. They do not use the same framing selections as standalone Paper Prints.
Confirm the available framing options for your selected product and size before placing your order.

Box Frames
Available for: HD Metal, HD Acrylic, HD Mounted, and Paper Prints.
Box Frames create a clean, defined border around the artwork. Their narrower face offers a more understated outline than our Flat Frames.
Available finishes: Box White, Box Black, Box Natural, Box Gold, and Box Silver.
Frame profiles:
Finish | Profile |
|---|---|
Box White, Box Black, Box Gold, and Box Silver | 0.75" × 1.375" |
Box Natural | 0.75" × 1.125" |
Important: Slight Image Coverage
A Box Frame overlaps approximately 1/8 inch of the print on each side. This is part of the frame's design.
Keep signatures, text, faces, and other important details away from the extreme edges. Frame overlap is separate from any cropping required to fit your image to the selected print size.
Choose a Box Frame for a defined edge without the visual gap of a Float Frame.
Float Frames
Available for: HD Metal, HD Acrylic, HD Mounted, and Canvas Prints.
A Float Frame surrounds the artwork while leaving a small gap between the print and the frame. That separation creates the appearance that the artwork is floating inside the frame.
The frame profile and available colors differ between panel prints and canvas.
For HD Metal, HD Acrylic, and HD Mounted
Available finishes: Float White and Float Black.
Profile: 0.25" × 1.25".
For Canvas
Available finishes: Float White, Float Black, and Float Natural.
Profile: 0.375" × 1.5".
Choose the 1.5-inch Gallery Wrap when adding a Float Frame to your canvas. The gallery wrap's internal wooden support and the decorative Float Frame are separate parts of the finished piece.
Canvas Float Frames use a different profile from the Float Frames for metal, acrylic, and HD Mounted prints. Matching the color alone does not mean the frame profiles will be identical.
Flat Frames
Available for: Paper Prints.
Flat Frames have a wider face than Box Frames, giving the border more visual presence. They work especially well with optional matting for a traditional framed-paper presentation.
Available finishes: Flat White and Flat Black.
Profile: 1.125" × 0.75".
The Flat Frame specifications list the outside dimensions as 2.25 inches larger than the print size. For a matted print or a piece that must fit a specific space, confirm the complete outside measurements with us before ordering.
Choose a Flat Frame when you want a broader border around a paper print.
Matting and Glazing for Paper Prints
Available for: Framed Paper Prints.
Matting adds a visible border between the image and its frame. It can create breathing room around the artwork, introduce contrast, and make the overall presentation more substantial.
Matting is available in White or Black, with three width options:
Mat Width | Maximum Image Size | Presentation |
|---|---|---|
2 inches | 52" × 32" | A more compact border for a restrained presentation |
3 inches | 54" × 34" | A balanced middle option for a range of print sizes |
4 inches | 52" × 32" | A broader border for a more expansive, gallery-style presentation |
These limits refer to the image size, not the overall framed dimensions. The 3-inch mat accommodates a slightly larger maximum image than the 2-inch and 4-inch options.
White matting creates a classic separation around the image. Black matting provides a darker, more contrasting border.
All framed Paper Prints include museum-grade plexiglass glazing. This is the protective covering in front of the paper print; matting is a separate, optional selection.
Hanging Your Framed Print
Hanging hardware depends on the size and configuration of the finished piece. Cleat hangers are not available for framed prints.
For larger sizes, wire hangers cannot be used for stability reasons. We install D-rings instead. Do not add a hanging wire to these prints.
For larger artwork or a specific installation requirement, such as an existing gallery rail system, contact us before ordering so we can confirm the appropriate setup.
Always follow the hanging instructions supplied with your particular print rather than assuming it will install the same way as a previous order.
Common Misconceptions
A Float Frame and a Float Mount are the same thing.
They are different options. A Float Frame is a visible frame around the artwork. A Float Mount attaches behind the print and spaces it away from the wall without adding a decorative border around the image.
HD Mounted Prints use the same frames as Paper Prints.
Although HD Mounted Prints begin with photographic paper, they are a different finished product. HD Mounted offers Box and Float Frames; Paper offers Box and Flat Frames, with optional matting.
The frame profile is the size of the finished artwork.
Profile measurements describe the frame moulding, not the complete framed piece. Your print size, frame choice, and any matting affect the overall dimensions. Contact us for exact outside measurements when wall space is limited.
Our Recommendation
Choose a Box Frame for a clean, defined border, a Float Frame for visible separation around the artwork, or a Flat Frame for a wider border around a paper print.
For a coordinated group of prints, confirm the frame style, finish, and profile across each selected material. Check the finished dimensions and hanging requirements before ordering, especially when matching an existing display.
